This combination is amazing.

My obsession with PBS.

I get giddy for specials on PBS, and Nova. Beside the fact that I’m incredibly frugal, and don’t care to have 400+ channels. Simply put, PBS has always been a love of mine. And what’s better than Jeopardy, IBM, and PBS? Absolutely nothing.

Yeah, I miss out on amazing channels like National Geographic, Science, and Sun dance. But, in reality I know I don’t have the time for tv, so why buy something I’m not going to use? That’s where PBS specials come into play. Free, Educational, Nerdy television. Check it out tonight at 9pm on PBS!

Operation: Get Yancy a New Bike!

Last night while my husband was at work, he walked outside on his break to find his bike stolen. Someone had cut the bike lock and took off with his bike right in front of the store. He had literally just bought this bike a few weeks ago. He shopped around everywhere looking for it. Needless to say my husband was extremely distraught.

Six months or so ago, my husband had his first major theft. He was at Target working hard (like always!) and I had decided to get some of our grocery shopping done while he worked. While browsing through the aisles, I began to feel very dizzy and nearly fainted. I walked over to him at his work station and told him I wasn’t feeling well. He immediately informed his supervisor and left work to take me home. He assumed that his truck would be safe overnight. Such was not the case. I dropped my husband off at work the next morning right by his truck, and my heart sank when he walked up to it and seen what had happened. A group of individuals had broken into and completely destroyed his little S-10. His truck wasn’t the greatest to begin with, but it’s the only truck he’s ever owned and is his only mode of transportation. They didn’t just steal his bag of clothes and shoes, they also stole his prized possession: his music collection. Yancy had an entire book full of albums of every band you can think of; none of which were burned. That alone was enough to crush him. But, stealing his material possessions wasn’t enough for the vandals. They also had to rip his entire dash apart, take a crowbar to the locks and door handles and completely destroy the door, crack the windshield, cut all of the interior lights out, rip the speakers out of the dash and doors,

Needless to say after that my husband was always cautious about leaving his truck at work, despite the fact that there wasn’t much else to steal. Due to the fact that the security cameras were so poor and there is a clear lack of security and surveillance throughout the parking lot, he elected buy a bike to start riding to and from work.

We live close, only about a mile and a half from where he works now. College is about the same distance. We have two vehicles, so it only made sense. For months we researched buying a used bike, talked to several people, searched Craig’slist…etc. After a while realized it would be cheaper to buy a brand new bike from where he worked instead of buying a used one anywhere else for more. I don’t have any idea why people on Craig’s list were charging more than $100 for a bike anyways, but that’s a different story.

So a couple of a weeks ago, my husband bought a bike from work, bought a chain lock, the works. Only a few days ago, on Sunday, my husband drove 30 mins to have his dad fix the bike because the people who assembled the bikes at work put them together poorly. Apparently to save money, they got rid of the actual bike assembler and started to have team members who have no experience or knowledge in “bike 101” put them together instead. I almost cried when my husband told me about his day that included the handle bars flipping forward while he was crossing a major intersection.

Besides all the trouble with finding a bike, buying a bike, getting the bike fixed and working properly , Yancy loved riding that bike. It was less time to bike to work then driving in his truck (without a/c, or radio mind you). It was less hassle, and because of my husbands RLS it helped his severe leg pain. Simply put, it made him happy. My husband was so content with his bike we decided to put his truck on ‘vacation insurance’ because it no longer made since to fully insure a vehicle we were no longer using. This was a personal victory that I can tell he was really proud of. He was doing the world and his body good, and was saving money in the process.

Now here we are, after what you’ve read you could imagine why my husband was upset. I don’t blame him, but it’s one of those things that you can’t really do much about . In all realism, there’s a very slim chance he’ll get his bike back. His work is not sympathetic to his situation and are not treating it with even the slightest hint of professionalism or importance. I wonder what would be different if this very thing happened to one of his bosses. What if someone broke into their new BMW?

It’s more about principle than anything at this point. You’re at work and your stuff gets vandalized and nothing happens to fix it. Six months later a similar thing happens, but this time your ride is stolen. We both know it in God’s hands now, that who ever needed that back will have what’s coming to him seven times worse than what my husband is experiencing.

It just hurts to see something that made my husband so happy be taken away, he’s a good person, he is probably the nicest person anyone will ever met. So my situation is this, my birthday is in 12 days and there is no way I will let my husband get me anything. My husband needs a new bike, and letting him get me anything for my birthday isn’t even an option at this point. So Yancy if you’re reading this, sorry babe. Don’t even try. You need a bike. Getting me something for my birthday is at the bottom of a very long list.

So I’ve started an operation with one simple mission: help me get my husband a new bike. Nothing fancy, the same bike, with the same chain lock. He won’t be locking it up outside again for obvious reasons. I believe it was only about $150 for both bike and lock. My goal is to get him a bike before my birthday (September 25th).

A few have already given us gift cards, and offered old bikes. We’re thankful but we can’t afford to have an old bike to spend money on to fix up so it’s operable. You don’t have to give anything if you don’t have or want to, all I ask is you share this with people. I just want people to know I love my husband, and his happiness means the world to me. He’s one of the greatest people in the world, and it’s just sad to see someone like him always get some of the worst things that life can deal.

Thank you for reading, operation get Yancy a new bike has begun!

The first time.

It’s taken me a while to really create a clean set up for this blog. I find myself trying to get track of all the social networks, and websites I visit daily. This place is going to be the hub of it all. This is where I will interact, socialize, stream, and sell.

Eventually, in an effort to keep friends and family up to date on our newly wed life, my husband and I will be begin posting video blogs, and updating on major events in our lives. Our hopes are simple, that our followers enjoy themselves on this journey as much as we hope to.

Welcome, and enjoy.
